The VQHA website scheme has been changed to blue to show support for Youth member Mary Huddleston.

Mary is a 15 year old cancer survivor who is now fighting cancer again. Mary is a wonderful person and a great horseback rider and deserves all the support she can get from the AQHA and VQHA community!

Here are some VQHYA updates to start off 2011:

1. The 2011 VQHYA Bylaws, 2011 Letter of Intent – AQHYA World Show, 2011 Letter of Intent – NYATT, 2011 Letter of Intent – YES/AQHYA Convention, 2011 Novice Youth Rookie Application, and 2011 Youth Rookie Application are now available.

2. There will be a Region 5 Youth Leadership Conference and Social on Friday March 18 and Saturday March 19 in Harrington, DE. They will be having guest speakers, games, a college fair, pool party, and fiesta dance with DJ. Region 5 Youth Conference 2011

3. Anyone intested in running for VQHYA Office, please notify Chris Ringer by March 8th. chrisjringer@verizon.net or 757-641-2896

4. VQHYA has 50 AQHF Scholarship Fundraiser Cards to sell. The cards are $25 each. The card can be used to get 10% off any purchase at Sean Ryon, National Saddlery, Showtime Show Clothing, Cross Bar Gallery, Avila Pro Shop, Teners, Show Diva Designs, Blue Ribbon Tack, AQHA Outfitters, Shortys Hattery, Logan Western Supply, and Davis Boots. The discount is good in-store and online. The card expires 8-31-2011. The discount is unlimited and can be used on as many purchases as you would like. VQHYA gets to keep HALF of the profits from selling these cards. The other half goes to the AQHF scholarship fund. It will be mandatory for World Team and NYATT competitors to sell these cards. The cards can be purchased online on the VQHYA page.

5. The 2011 VQHYA calendars are now for sale. The first bath sold very well, and they will now be $10 each. The calendars can be purchased online on the VQHYA page.

6. With the help of Krystal St. James, VQHYA is organizing a competitive Horse Judging Team. Please contact Chris Ringer if you are interested.

7. There will be a Silent Auction fundraiser at the 2011 Virginia QH Classic to benefit VQHYA. All potential World and NYATT Team members are required to donate 1 item of at least $50 value.

On Sunday October 17th, Virginia Youth members competed in the National Youth Activities Team Tournament at the 2010 All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio.

The day got off to a great start with a 3rd place finish in the Barrel Racing by Tory Shockley and Krystal St James’ Reserve Championship in the Reining. Then, Katie Jo Jones continued the success streak with a 3rd place finish in the Horsemanship. Morgan Rogers brought VA a spot in the finals of the Western Pleasure and Kira Lubeshkoff was also a finalist in the Hunter Under Saddle.

At 8:00pm in the Coliseum arena, Virginia was announced as the Overall 2nd Place Team for the 2010 NYATT!

Dear fellow VQHYA and VQHA members,

I hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of summer, and getting ready to head back to school and go back to your usual fall/winter routines. This has been one amazing summer for VQHYA. Colby Ringer, Michael Felts, Whitney Southall, Kimberly Brown, Shiloh Finch, Kacie Collier, and myself started it off with a boom by representing Virginia at the Youth Excellence Seminar and AQHYA Convention in June. They got the opportunity to learn leadership skills, meet other members of AQHYA from all over the United States, and vote on who they wanted to run AQHYA for 2010-2011.

Michael Felts, Sammi Felts, Megan McConkey, Kassie Blazer, Matthew Nash, Tori Shockley, Ben Shank, Elizabeth Shank, and myself then took Virginia to the AQHYA youth world championship show the first week of August. The world show was a complete success. We came back with 1 Reserve World Championship, 1 third place, 2 Top 40, 1 Top 30, 1 Top 20, and 2 Top Tens! It was truly a year to remember. Virginia also ended up third place in the team spirit and stall decoration contest! Our stall decorations were awesome! Thank you to Chris Ringer and Melissa Wright for picking them out and Kyle Hughes for hauling them out to Oklahoma. The Team Virginia outfits were also very stylish and we all walked in with dignity and pride and preformed a dance that we developed ourselves with help from Chris and Melissa. Everyone got along fantastic and everyone was always willing to offer a helping hand whether it was simply sweeping the aisle way or attempting to fix our broken Port-A-Cool.

We would also like to give a big thank you to our parent association and Gene Montgomery for providing the Youth Association with enough money to buy Port-A-Cools. We would have burnt up otherwise! I would also like to give a BIG thank you to Chris Ringer and Melissa Wright for coming out to the world show and supporting us and for all of the time they put into ordering our outfits, entering us, and making stall decorations. We wouldn’t have been able to make it without you guys! The Calendar Raffle is now underway so stay in touch to see if you won anything! This has been a great year for VQHYA so far, and we can’t wait to see what the Congress and the rest of the year has to bring for Virginia!
