Today Ms. Cecilia Hylton was laid to rest. Her loss has been felt by the entire horse industry, especially the Virginia Quarter Horse Association.
Ms. Hylton was an avid supporter of the VQHA and its programs, both financially and by lending her guidance whenever necessary. She brought national recognition to the association with her success in the show ring and leadership in the industry, including the introduction of the Hylton Maiden 3 & Over Western Pleasure Futurity.
Cecilia was a natural leader and her influence extended to the entire horse industry, we are proud to have been her home association. Her success was our success. She never met a stranger and was one of the most down to earth people you would ever meet. She greeted everyone with a smile and words of encouragement; for that reason, she was the recipient of the 2010 VQHA Sportsmanship Award. An award that she could have won every year if that were possible. In 2014 Cecilia was inducted into the VQHA Hall of Fame, for her work in the association. Ms. Hylton will always be one of the matriarchs of the VQHA family.
The Virginia Quarter Horse Association would like to wish its sincerest condolences to Ms. Hylton’s family in this difficult time. Her influence will be missed.
The offices of President and Vice President are up for election.
Cory Balsis has offered to process the nominations this year for us so if you are interested in either of these two positions, please email your letter of intent no later than December 25, 2020 to

Year End Awards – 2019 and 2020
For 2019 awards, we have awards for classes not certificates for Champion and Reserve Champion unless you won multiples. (If you would like these mailed please contact Laura Boardwine. I will also have these at the September show in Lexington, VA.) The amateurs will be mailing the third and fourth place amateur awards shortly as well .
For 2020 awards, due to the impact of the 2020 show season, we will not be providing year end awards for this year.
This year has certainly been a challenge, one that we have not ever been challenged with before. Of utmost importance is that you all stay safe and healthy. We look forward to when the economy reopens and we are all able to gather and enjoy catching up.
